- Epro is awarded status on account of its reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
- The status also involves supporting offsetting; a vital step in climate action
Leading healthcare informatics provider Epro has officially became a carbon neutral company, showcasing its climate action commitment and significant contribution to fighting climate change.
Achieving carbon neutral status means that Epro is making great progress in continuously reducing greenhouse gas emissions and offsetting unavoidable emissions through carbon offset projects. Together with ClimatePartner, Epro has calculated its Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF), which includes emissions from sources such as energy and heating, business travel, office supplies and everything that the company uses in day-to-day operations.
Once calculating the CCF, Epro has been able to address areas which need a carbon emission reduction. This gets updated every year so that the team can adequately monitor its progress and identify additional areas for improvement.
Some emissions still remain unavoidable – and so Epro offsets them by supporting a project from the ClimatePartner portfolio. Offsetting is a vital step in climate action; without offsetting, the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Convention is not achievable at present – and there are not yet the necessary technologies to reduce all emissions drastically enough to meet this target. Investing in carbon offset projects also promotes sustainable development in the Southern hemisphere, so that economic progress is not dictated by investment in and use of fossil fuels.
“This achievement signifies more than just a badge of honour;” says Jonathan Elliott, Managing Director of Epro: “We take our sustainability pledge very seriously here at Epro. Being carbon neutral is very important to us and our NHS client base, so we are proud to now be working with ClimatePartner to maintain this.
“ClimatePartner also has an unparalleled offset project which we are proud to invest in as, not only does it align with our net zero commitments, but it also enables us to support the realisation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, such as the fight against poverty or the improvement of living conditions in emerging and developing countries. We are excited to be a part of this and look forward to improving our CCF year after year.”
